Be part of this revolution. Volunteer and become a callejero.

Tell me if this is the world you want to live in. Tell me if this is the world you want to leave to your children. Tell me if you see a world united. Tell me if you see peace in every country, in every street. Tell me if we are all equal regardless to race, religion, sex, social class. Tell me if each citizen of this world has the freedom to travel and rediscover this wonderful world we live in. Tell me if we all have the opportunity to get an education. Tell me if every human being recieves the same quality health care (if recieving any). Tell me you cannot do anything to make it better. Tell me it's impossible, tell me it's impossible again, tell me you are busy doing other things, tell me it's worthless, tell me only politicians can do something about it. Tell me this is not the time to start a revolution, tell me I'm crazy. Tell me it's impossible again and again. Tell me nothing. Just come.

Teach English, Spanish or Art

We currently give English classes three days a week in a little square in the favela Tabajaras in Copacabana. We also do art classes on saturdays in the same square, and would like to start up Spanish classes too. No teaching experience is necessary, just enthusiasm.

Homework club

As well as the language and art classes, we are planning to start a homework club to help both adults and children with their studies in Portuguese, mathematics, and the whole range of subjects. Some students will need basic help with literacy. Again, we are not necessarily looking for professional teachers - although those will be most welcome.. Just people with a bit of spare time to shar their knowledge and help others learn.

Library and social club

We need volunteers to help look after the CALLE library and social club, recently opened in the main street of the favela (Rua Euclides da Rocha no. 13). The space is open for adults and children to read a book, use the free computers, or just stay for a snack and a conversation. The more volunteers we have to work in the club, the more hours we can stay open to the public.

Or create a new project ...

Would you like to organise a photography or film workshop, maybe street theatre, a study group of any kind ... or maybe just take a group of kids down to play football on the beach? Get in touch and let's share our ideas.

Facilities for volunteers:

Volunteers are just that - we can't pay you anything. (You don´t have to pay us anything either). We can provide some accomodation in our shared volunteer house - volunteers contribute towards the house rent and running costs.

If you are interested in coming from abroad to work with us, please read these notes for international volunteers.

How to apply:

If you are in Rio, you could come along and have a chat with us at the CALLE social club, Rua Euclides da Rocha no. 13 casa 2, Copacabana. Or email our volunteer coordinator Joan, who will answer any questions and discuss arrangements.  joan@callerj.com
