The beginning
CALLE started in Rio de Janeiro on 5 February 2007, in the community
of Tabajaras in Copacabana. The first project was English classes.
It was then that CALLE's revolution began in the streets of Rio.
The classes were and continue to be held in the street Rua Euclides
da Rocha in a small square. CALLE believes that we do not need
a building or luxurious space to fight for a more just and equal
world. The streets are an immense battle field, full of people
fighting struggling every day and every night for a more human
life.
Why Rio? Why the community of Tabajaras? When you are fighting
for a world with equality, justice and humanity, it doesn't matter
where you start. The important thing is to start.
Who began CALLE? It was not a person but a journey. A jpurney
that lasted two months. It began in Chicago and continued in
Mexico
Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia,
Ecuador, Peru, Bolívia, Paraguay, until finally raching
Rio de Janeiro. A bus journey that crossed the streets of America
and showed their reality.
